Deycie

DeycieDeycie is 24 years old and has spent months in hospitals fighting for her life. On November 13, 2009, just 5 days before her wedding, this vibrant young lady was diagnosed with leukemia (AML) and has since been a patient at USC Medical Center and City of Hope. She is of African American, Chinese and Samoan descent, thus making her search for a bone marrow transplant that much more difficult. Before her diagnosis, Deycie worked as a coach for John Rowland High School Junior Varsity Girls' basketball and volleyball teams while attending Mt. San Antonio College. Deycie's goal is to become an English teacher while continuing coaching basketball. She is currently undergoing an autologous transplant but is still searching for a life-saving marrow match.

Deycie peacefully passed away after her 2 year battle with leukemia in August of 2011. We will miss her and hope that you will continue to spread the word about the need for more multi-racial donors.

Patty

Patty registered to be a marrow donor when she saw A3M’s booth at her son’s basketball game one day. A few years later when Patty was traveling, her husband informed her via email that she was a match for a patient. She felt very special that she could be the one to help another person. She was concerned about the patient so she immediately let the donor center know that she was willing to go ahead. Patty’s young children also encouraged their mother saying, “Do it mom, do it”.

On her return Patty went through some blood tests and donated her marrow a few weeks later.
