The goal of the All of Us Research Program is to help researchers understand more about why people get sick or stay healthy. If you join, here are some things you can expect to do:
1. ENROLL & CONSENT If you decide to join the All of Us Research Program, you’ll need to enroll and give your consent. The consent process is very important. It helps you understand what you will be doing as an All of Us Research Program participant and what your participation means. We will ask if you want to share your electronic health record (EHR) with All of Us. EHRs are used by care providers to keep track of information about your visits, health, medications and treatments. Researchers approved by All of Us can use EHR information to discover more about health.
2. ANSWER QUESTIONS
We will ask you about your health history, family, home and work. These surveys will take about 30 to 60 minutes to fill out. You can choose to answer the surveys or not. Your answers will help build the All of Us database. Researchers can access this database to conduct studies.
3. PHYSICAL MEASUREMENTS & SAMPLES
You may be asked to have your physical measurements taken. These may include measuring your height, weight, hips, waist, blood pressure and heart rate. We may invite you to give samples. These may include blood, urine or saliva. It may be months, or even several years, until we do certain tests on the samples you provided. When it is time for them to be used for research, we will tell you.
4. SHARE DATA
All of Us will not purposefully share confidential information with anyone but you, except in certain cases. For more information, please read the Frequently Asked Questions at joinallofus.org. You will always have access to the data you share with All of Us. You can share your All of Us information with anyone you choose, like your health care team or your family or loved ones.
5. ONGOING PARTICIPATION
The All of Us Research Program will last for at least 10 years. Over time, opportunities to take part will grow. You may be asked to complete more health surveys or join new research studies or clinical trials. You may also be invited to use tools like mobile devices, cell phones and tablets, to encourage healthier habits. There’s no telling what we can discover, all thanks to participants like you.
Please register to join the All of Us Research Program to be part of a bigger movement to help gear health care towards individuals. To find more information about the All of Us Research Program, you can visit their website at https://AllOfUs.NIH.gov.
